The WetlandHunter® 425 is designed for use in the waterfowl hunting environment with close-working dogs. This device takes the most advanced, industry-leading technology that SportDOG™ Brand has ever built and combined it with the most compact system ever offered.

The compact WetlandHunter 425X Camo is ideal for training in the yard, field, or for hunting with dogs that hunt close.

Let’s face it, the birds see everything that moves, and to get them in close, concealment is paramount. The WetlandHunter 425X leaves no detail undone. Utilizing Realtree’s MAX-5 Camo, the WetlandHunter offers all the benefits of the FieldTrainer 425X, including now 21 levels of stimulation, a 500-yard range, and more important than ever, submersible up to 25’ with DryTek technology.

Our friends at SportDOG have excelled once again at making their standard even better. Introducing the X-Series: new technology built on the same solid platform you know and trust. The FieldTrainer 425X is the first the new series. The biggest difference being that this training collar now offers 21 levels of stimulation at your fingertips.

If you’re familiar with the standard 425 Wetland Hunter, you’ll remember the intensity dial from 1-7. The 425X provides the same dial, but now gives you Low, Medium, and High for each number on the dial. This allows you so much more control and a greater degree of precision to get the exact response from your dog. Not too hard, not too soft, but just right. As with its predecessor, the 425X still offers Vibrate and Tone, an extremely useful feature.

Lightweight, compact, and dependable.

The Wetland Hunter 425X is not necessarily an entry level model, since it contains all the features of any professional e-collar, however its ease of use (and price tag) is perfect for anyone new to e-collar training. The 425X is also the smaller of the X-Series products, which provides a compact and lightweight option suitable for small dogs (8-10lbs) or for young dogs just starting out.

The 500-yard range is ideal for close working dogs, mainly retrievers, and for anyone who needs that “around the house” training or heading out to the park.

Add up to 3 dogs to the remote system, and instantly switch stimulation modes.

The Wetland Hunter 425X can be used up to a 3-dog system, and is “backwards compatible” with the older 425 collar receivers, the SDR-AF model, meaning the original 425 collars can deliver the same 21 levels of stimulation that the new 425X offers.

The SDR-AC is also the Add-A-Dog collar model offered when ordering a 2 or 3-dog unit. You do lose a few of the transmitter’s extra features when adding additional collars (see the operating guide for details). The newer SDR-AXF collar receiver will be available from SportDOG later this year, which should include a slightly smaller design and an updated color and finish to match the 425X transmitter.

Switch instantly between stimulation, vibration, and tone to fit the correction or communication to your dog’s temperament and learning ability. Both the Transmitter and Receiver are waterproof and submersible. It comes as a 1-dog system, but can be expanded to control up to 3 dogs by adding SportDOG Brand Add-A-Dog™ collars.

The comfortable, ergonomic transmitter weighs only 4.0 ounces, making this unit a pleasure to handle. This 425 Model is an upgraded replacement for the SportDOG Field Trainer 400.

      Overall great product
Having to switch the dial from vibrate/tone to a shock makes for a shakey training situation if you're trying to interact with a crowd or in the dark but overall a great product. My uncle has used his for hunting and it is already 3 years old so quality in the build is a plus.

      Great Buy!
I am a first time lab owner. After comparing this against many other brands and then against other models within SportDOG i felt this the Wetland425 was the way to go. I have not been let down. I got one when my pup was about 6 months old to gain his attention when he would ignore me in a training session. I haven't had to go over the 3 setting and I haven't had to use it much since.

      Best Choice We've Made
Our German shepherd had the basic fundamentals down for basic obedience, and this collar gave us an extension to his leash making him that much greater. We love our SportDog collar, and wouldn't go with any other brand in the future!

Worked with very little previous experience!
I originally intended on avoiding shock collars as a training platform for my Golden Retriever, Trigger. I had the same concerns many dog lovers/owners have about the trauma their dog might experience. I thought using all positive reinforcement would be the most effective approach to basic training as well as field/gun-dog training. Boy was I wrong! I'll note that the only experience I've had before this with collars was boundary collars or underground fences with previous dogs. Trigger, my 5 month old retriever unfortunately began to become very stubborn. If there was no reward or treat involved then training or compliance was not going to happen. Even though he knew I was the alpha he was still becoming increasingly defiant. Some might say spoiled. He started out great. He'd fetch/retrieve, sit, stay, and come back to me when I ordered. Something changed though. He began to run when he was called, only sit for a treat, and he'd begin to retrieve but show little interest in completing the task despite my joyful pleas. He'd also take off chasing any small animal he thought he could tackle without hesitation or regard for my commands. Our poor cat Milly had it rough for a while. This was most concerning to me because he'd go on a chase, and not stop until he was ready. Living just outside of the city this put his life in danger for obvious reasons. So, after some research I ordered the collar. The first day I attempted to use it combined with basic on leash training using commands that he already knew. The provided CD explains how this should be done. I was ready to give positive reinforcement immediately after the use of the collar if need be. The first few attempts were successful. Then he began trying to tough through it. With his ears twitching he'd power through the shock, and completely ignoring the tone/vibration mode. So I turned up the juice one notch (now to #2). Keep in mind I turned this all the way up, and hand tested this before using it on my dog. I'm sure that's not recommended, but I wasn't going to use it on him if I wasn't willing to test it on myself first. It's definitely an attention getter, but nothing I wasn't comfortable using on him. #1 was so faint I could barely feel it. A slight tingle at best. #1 is where I started, and #2 is as high as I've ever needed to go. Moving up to #2... He yelped, and wanted to get in the house some kind of bad. After calming him down we took a break, and I considered putting the collar up until he was a little older. He seemed a little rattled, but shortly after I noticed a huge improvement. I decided to slow things down a little more, and give it another try. Within 20-30 minutes he was reacting to the sound tone alone. I haven't had to use the shock button once since this. I've seen him chasing the cat in a full sprint and stop at my command; turning back to return to me when using the "COME" command and tone alone. He fetches happily, and obediently now. Sits, and stays nicely. He even gets in his kennel without hesitation on command. Which is something he didn't do before. He does at times give me that old look, but using the collars tone/vibration mode quickly reminds him it doesn't pay to be stubborn. He's very much a different dog in the best way possible! He doesn't act traumatized or any of the other ideas that pass through dog owners minds when considering using this training tool. If anything it's improved his life drastically, kept him out of trouble, and most importantly put him back on track to be the best dog he can be. He's a better all around dog than ever. Did I mention I haven't been frustrated once since using this collar? I'm very greatful I took the chance. I'm sure Trigger would say the same. Training has become a pleasure once again. He's becoming a very proud dog, and I'm a very proud owner!
Thanks for the ease of use,
      Jeremy

The collar is very user friendly. So far has not had any issues, particularly with the collar getting wet. The CD was very helpful also.
